A Little Help

There was a project in my home, and it really just needed to get done, yet it sat there, hounding me, always taunting me with it's unfinishedness. It's not that the job was so overwhelming or huge, it was just one of those things that would require attention for a time, during which you couldn't really deviate. It needed to be started and finished which, in our world, always seems impossible.

Enter a friend.

Sometimes we need someone to come beside us and just get it done.
In my home there is nothing else for my friend to do except the task at hand. She doesn't have to answer the phone, or tend to my children, or look something up on the computer, or cook or anything else. She can focus on the task and get it done. And that's exactly what Renee did for me. She came, she saw, she worked, and she got it done. And I  am so amazingly blessed to look over there and see it done! It is a load off my mind, a free space. I feel lighter, and released from it.

And...
it didn't cost me money. We made a trade of services.
So worth it, both of us.

Be A Duck

Two steps forward, one step back, two steps forward, a million steps back, a gazillion steps forward, a thousand back....and on and on...

I like to celebrate small victories. You finally ate a green vegetable? Woohoo!! You drank 8 glasses of water today? ROCKSTAR! You got a new stapler? That's fabulous!

Unfortunately for me it means I take the little setbacks harder than necessary.

I am being refined, and I am working hard, and somewhat succeeding, at letting it go, letting it slide off my back like a duck...hence my phrase,

"Be a duck".

Yep. So recently, I thought I had a major (at least to me) set back. It was a great loss for me. But instead of flipping out, I just said, "You know what God, you know best, and I will praise you and let's keep going" (I was on the treadmill at the time).
 I was a duck.
A duck that jogs.
But still, a duck.

So God gave me words to say to this person and the setback situation, and you know what?
Everything turned out okay.

I could have stressed out, and said all the wrong things...
but I didn't.

And it's all good.

Quack.

A Little Spark Will Go A Long Way

We are currently a one car family. Not by choice, not that we couldn't survive this way most of the time actually. But we do end up needing to be in two different places sometimes. It can get complicated.

However, when your one still running car starts acting up, well, it causes a little concern.
Because of the symptoms at first we thought it may be the transmission. A scary thought. Then suddenly the symptoms changed, or morphed. I could tell it wasn't the transmission slipping, perhaps a blockage in the fuel line? The fuel pump? I wasn't sure. Enter our good friend Dave W. Mechanic. He checked it out, and lo and behold, we needed new spark plugs. They weren't firing correctly and therefore resulted in the symptoms we were experiencing. I am so very thankful to know someone that can help us out with stuff like this.

This is sometimes a tough world to live in, specifically if you don't have a lot money. We are so advanced technologically, we need specialists for every area now, and they all cost money. I am ever so thankful for friends with skills that are generous, and we pay it back or forward as well. I think it is truly the only way many of us survive.

Consider what you have to offer...and for some of you  it may be money.  How can you change someone elses day, or week, or even life? What can you assist with? I am not talking about giving away all your services, or even totally free. Perhaps just a discount. Perhaps some yard work for someone elderly. Or bringing meals to someone that is ill, especially if they live alone. Community.

We have built fences, and communicate through little black boxes instead of talking and meeting our community around us. If we had done that our car wouldn't be fixed.  Our trees wouldn't be trimmed. Music wouldn't be at some events for really good causes...

I just feel like maybe, if a few more people were to reach out a little bit more, we could revive community for what it really means. Helping each other survive.

Thankful Ten Tuesday!

I am so grateful:

For people that get me, and cheer me on when I need a lift!
For a focus to help others, and give them a lift.
For my treadmill still working.
For our one working car, still hanging in there.

For 13 years with my sweetie. I sure do love him.

So Very...

We were blessed today, in a mighty and wonderful way. Someone very graciously offered a gift to us that will bless Spencer's socks off.  We are delighted. He is delighted. The person is delighted, because that Spencer kid? He's a great kid!

Someday, not too far into the future, I will pay it forward.
I will make someone's day, just like someone made ours today.
And I might do it completely anonymously, because it isn't about glory to the giver, it's about joy to the receiver.

We are grateful to be receiving today, and look forward to continue to be givers ourselves.

NOT WORK??

When my husband told me the comment Hilary Rossen made regarding Ann Romney, I was shocked.
I could go on and on here, a rant really, about how clueless someone is making such a statement...but I think this blog says it perfectly.

And while yes, I do not homeschool 9 children, she make incredibly valid points.
If I wasn't caring for my family, or managing the household, then someone else would be paid to do so...I consider that valued work.

Before...and Now

I just wanted to take a moment to show a little progress in our weight loss journey. If you are tired of all  this success and talk of such things, I am so sorry. It has been a great thing for us. We finally have something that works, with ethical standards of their products, and true claims, and we feel TERRIFIC. When 2 couch potato-ish people suddenly WANT to to work out? Well, you know you are on to something good.

We aren't to "after" yet...but here is a before, taken in May 2011:

We started our Isagenix journey in January 2012
And here is a "during", taken on Easter, 2012

We lost a lot of  "face"...but in a good way.

These shots were taken on Easter as well with the kids. Such a beautiful day to remember and celebrate God's ultimate gift to us.
Easter 2012

Everyone is on a journey of one kind or another.
Life just keeps moving.

I like that we are headed towards positive changes with healthy results.

Easter For Real

Tomorrow is Easter.
A celebration of Jesus being raised from the dead, after a horrific death. Why? All for you! He would have done it just for you, but it did it for anyone, everyone. God wanted a way for everyone to be free of sin and come be with Him. It's a free gift for the asking. Jesus was a real man, here on earth, but he was also God's son. He died and was raised from the dead, and then (later) ascended back up to heaven. Do you believe it's true? Do you follow His instructions left for us in the Bible? Do you have the salvation being offered, and therefore know you are going to Heaven when you die?

I do.

Take a Moment Thursday

I am taking a moment today, to thank God for my many blessings.
I am taking a moment today, to thank Him for the trials that help me grow as well.

I am taking a moment to thank my husband, and hold him tight...
To hug my son and tell him I am proud of him.
To text my daughters and tell them I am proud of them too.
To remember those that have fought for our freedom, and send encouragement to their families left behind.
To look around and deep clean one area in my house, even though we did some major overhauling yesterday.
To stop, take a breath, and be still, and know that He is God, He loves me, and everything will work out for my good.
To thank my mentor for working so hard to train me and help me start my business.
To dream about the future, and dream big.

I will of course cook food, and wash dishes and study God's word, and work out. But sometimes it's in the little moments where you find peace and reassurance.

Take a moment.

So Very Thankful

As Tuesday comes to an end I lift up my thankfulness to my Father God...

Thank you for my family, for a husband with such an amazing capacity to love and such a generous spirit. Thank you for my children, and the opportunity to see them grow. Thank you for the people in my life that help me laugh, and teach me to laugh at myself. I thank you for the weather, today sunny, but lately so rainy, we needed that water. Thank you for the mentors and the teachers, and the leaders in my life, and thank you that they are so willing to give of themselves to me. Thank you for the opportunity to learn and grow through the reactions and interesting lives of other people I get to encounter, these last few days have been interesting. Thank you for the powerful gifts and the opportunity to do life together with my friend Chris. She is a treasure to me.Thank you for wanting to spend time with me, even when I say I am busy, thank you for always being there.

Thank you for the gift of your son's death on a cross. Without it I know I could never reach you, never be with you...I am grateful for the grace, grateful for the beauty of being clean, whole, and fully yours.

Thank you.
