Fin

As 2009 ends and 2010 begins I just want to pray a blessing over anyone that reads my blog.

May your next year be filled with blessings and sweet surprises. May you weather the storms without giving up hope. May you ride above your circumstances and not under them. May you have peace, joy, love and understanding in your homes.

Welcome 2010. I am glad to see you.

Generosity.

Many years ago Willow Tree started making gentle nativity sets, that I adore. A dear friend of mine has that set, it's beautiful really. It has always been something that I loved, but couldn't justify the cost, there were so many practical things we needed.

I wanted representation in my house of what this season is really all about. I love to decorate. I got rid of my Santa collection, I don't even know why I had them in the first place. We don't really push that whole aspect. Sure, we have stockings, but never made it that big of a deal. I wanted a clean nice nativity to adorn my house, but it always seemed out of reach.

Monday night was a huge concert that our church put on to benefit our local hospital. We were able to raise enough funds for them to buy an anesthesia machine for their birthing center, how cool is that? We had fabulous raffle prizes donated for the cause, rounds of golf, gym memberships, a Willow Tree Nativity set. It wasn't the one I had admired all these years, but it was stunning. Mary, Joseph and Jesus all in one, with the color instead of all cream. I was very excited.

Before you jump ahead. I didn't win it. In fact, I didn't have time to buy any tickets, being assistant to the leader and singing myself took a lot of time. SO I watched as people won things and someone I knew won that nativity set, which was amazing in a room of 400+ people.

After the concert I was chatting with the family that won, they actually won three things, one being Aaron's new Christmas CD. I mentioned they won what I really wanted. Daisie made an Elvis lip look at me and said, "I have a big ol' nativity set, you can have it"...because that's how Daisie talks, and because she is super cool like that.
You might think I screamed or smiled or something. I didn't.

"Daisie", I said with a straight face and seriousness dripping from my words, "don't mess with me, are you serious?"

She was.
Then I did a happy dance.

So, you might thing this is where the story ends...it doesn't. I am not a huge fan of the color on the figures. Since I work in the office I knew who donated it, she happens to own a hallmark store, so I did the logical thing (in my brain anyway) I went to the store, and talked to her about trading for the cream traditional set.

She said yes.

And I am still smiling.

A Christmas MEME

I received this one via Facebook, but I thought it would be fun to post it here!
Here we go!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I use bags when I am in a hurry, however I prefer beautiful boxes that we can re-use with spectacular real ribbon. This year I am all about wrapping paper apparently.

2. Real or Fake Tree?
Fake. I miss the fragrance, but not being ill by Christmas day due to allergies.

3. When do you put up the tree?
Right after Thanksgiving. Not necessarily the first weekend, depends on our schedule. This time of year is crazy (in a good way) for us.

4. When do you take the tree down?
January 2, if we are home and not travelling.

5. Do you like eggnog?
Yes, but only light, or thinned with milk. I've never had it with alcohol in it, no idea what that's like.

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
One year I walked through Target and wrote out a list, what isle, what size or color, and the price of each item...I received everything, the leather gloves, the teal blow dryer...it was a great year.

7. Do you have a nativity scene?
I have one currently, a small kid friendly one from AVON. I have had my eye on the Willow Tree set for years and would very much like to win the one being raffled off at the concert on Monday.

8. Hardest person to buy for?
My Brother. He buys what he needs or likes for himself.

9. Easiest person to buy for?
Spencer. Legos...it's that easy.

10. Worst Christmas gift you ever got?
Can't think of one.

11. Mail or email Christmas cards?
I don't e-mail Christmas cards, other kinds, but not Christmas...sometimes I don't mail them either. Christmas cards are hit and miss with us. this year didn't go as planned for the content of said card, so I doubt they will be sent out this year.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Elf. White Christmas, Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street (oldest one or newest one, not that middle one, ick)
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Usually I am shopping all year. This year I started the week before Thanksgiving.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
According to Miss Manners and other etiquette books it is perfectly acceptable to do so.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
All the treats that only show up at Christmas.

16. Colored or clear lights on the tree?
A million clear, plus one strand of red, just for a kick.

17. Favorite Christmas song?
No idea. I know some Carol's that certain pop artist have sung a rendition of, that really shouldn't...but I am not going to name names.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
Usually we travel, this year we are staying home, weird.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Let's see...
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixon, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Rudolph

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Star as a kid, angel now.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Christmas morning.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year?
Full parking lots, crowds everywhere. But mostly, why are people so rude?

23. What do you enjoy most about Christmas?
Everything.(Except pure commercialism)

24. How did you find out about Santa?
I think it was a combination of me starting to figure it out and my mom slipped up...but she may have done it on purpose.

Mammories....

Like the corners of my mind.....

Spencer has made a very odd request for Christmas. After snuggling on my bed he said "Your bed is so super duper comfortable, I want one of these soft thingies too for my bed"
I explained that they are memory foam and that they can be expensive, so if he wanted one it might have to be for Christmas. He was okay with that.

So tonight, as I finished making his bed with clean sheets he again brought up his request, and I quote:

"Oh I can't wait to get my mammary foam for my bed"

I nearly snorted half way down the hall.

"Spencer, that's MEMORY foam"
"Then what's a mammary?"
"That's the glands that produce milk in ladies boobs" (I am slightly embarrassed I used boob instead of breast, but I was still seriously trying to not fall over laughing).
"EEEWWW!"
"Female animals also have them as well to feed their babies."
"That's true, okay."

Because it is in the animal kingdom it takes off the stigma.

My House Is Full Of Nuts

I wanted to tell my mother in law this before she arrived. Her daughter and grand daughter currently live with her, and my niece is terribly allergic to nuts, but my mom in law loves them. I thought about it and wanted to tell her that they are here, along with peanut butter and other nutty things, but when the phrase "My house is full of nuts" crossed my mind, I just had to laugh...

it's just so true on so many levels!

Ten On Tuesday

DECEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!

1. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
2. Sweaters and Uggs(knockoffs)
3. Parties and gatherings
4. Lights, and more lights, and MOOOOOORE LIGHTS!
5. Giving things to people to make them happy!
6. End of another year, bringing in a new one.
7. Extra gigs and hours at work so #5 can happen.
8. Family and friend time.
9. I'll be honest, treats, cookies, and all the yummy things that only show up this time of year, like peppermint ice cream, and homemade frosted sugar cookies.

10. The birth of Jesus Christ. It's his birthday, He came here, to earth, as a lowly human being, not a rich king, born in a stable, to go on to die a horrible death, and WHY? So that we could be resolved of sin and actually hang out with God, to be saved, to have a real relationship again, not marred by stuff we did wrong.

That's the best gift of all.
